Let It Go, Dawg

By A Witness Called Black
I'm forty-six.
Divorced.
Atlanta born and raised.
I've seen love.
I've seen betrayal.
I've seen people throw away good things and spend years trying to replace them.
So hear me out.
I ain't taking sides.
I'm just watching.
And from where I'm standing,
you're still carrying a suitcase from a trip that's already over.
Yeah.
She played you.
She lied.
She moved foul.
Y'all got divorced.
Case closed.
What more evidence do you need?
What more verdict are you waiting for?
Brother, the jury already came back.
You won your freedom.
But you're still standing in the courtroom.
Still presenting exhibits.
Still giving testimony.
Still explaining the crime scene.
For what?
Move on, playa.
Grown man business now.
The hardest thing about heartbreak ain't surviving it.
It's knowing when to stop rehearsing it.
I get it.
You loved her.
You believed in her.
You built with her.
You saw forever.
Then forever packed a bag and walked out the door.
That hurts.
I've been there.
A lot of us have.
But you ain't the first man to get his heart broke.
And you sure won't be the last.
Life keeps moving.
The sun keeps rising.
The bills keep coming.
And there are billions of women walking this earth.
So why are you still giving free rent to somebody who moved out years ago?
That's the question.
Because every time her name comes up,
the wound sounds fresh.
Every time the story gets told,
it sounds like yesterday.
At some point, the pain stops being the problem.
The attachment becomes the problem.
You keep talking about what she did.
I want to know what you're doing.
Today.
Right now.
For your future.
For your peace.
For yourself.
Because while you're staring in the rearview mirror,
life is blowing the horn behind you.
Brother, drive.
The road is ahead.
And let's be honest.
She made her choice.
Whether it was smart, whether it was foolish, whether she regrets it or not,
she made it.
That's her burden.
Not yours.
You ain't got to carry both bags.
Drop yours.
Let her carry hers.
The game of life is undefeated.
People choose excitement over stability.
People trade certainty for fantasy.
People ignore wisdom.
People learn lessons the hard way.
Every single day.
Some recover.
Some don't.
But none of that changes what you're supposed to do next.
Keep moving.
Build your life.
Protect your peace.
Love again if you want to.
Don't if you don't.
But stop living in a chapter you already finished reading.
You survived.
That's the headline.
Everything else is footnotes.
So let it go, dawg.
Not because she deserves forgiveness.
Not because she deserves understanding.
Not even because she apologized.
Let it go because carrying it is costing you more than losing it.
The strongest flex isn't proving you were right.
It's proving you no longer care who was wrong.
That's grown-man territory.
And brother,
it's time to walk there.
Amen.
