Mission Statement — Last Call

— Spoken Word by VillyMarlou
[Slow. Heavy. Reflective.]
Last call.
For the alcohol.
For the excuses.
For protecting feelings
that never protected mine.
[Pause]
Why should I keep walking on eggshells
around a story
that shattered the floor beneath me?
Why should I edit the truth
to make betrayal sound comfortable?
[Short pause]
You moved another man
into the home.
The same home
I was sacrificing for.
While I was up north—
working.
Starving.
Grinding.
Believing.
Building a future
for people I thought were building with me.
[Pause]
Thank God
I didn't come home unannounced.
Thank God
I didn't walk through that door
and discover reality
before I was mentally prepared to face it.
Because some moments
change lives forever.
And some decisions
carry consequences
nobody can take back.
[Slow]
Maybe I wouldn't be standing here today.
Maybe anger would've written a story
that wisdom is writing now.
Maybe I would've traded freedom
for one moment of rage.
Maybe I would've lost everything
trying to make sense
of what never made sense.
[Pause]
So instead—
I survived.
I endured.
I left.
I signed the papers.
I closed the chapter.
Yet somehow
the stain of it all
lingered longer than the ink.
[Build]
Because let's be honest—
that wasn't normal.
That wasn't love.
That wasn't respect.
That wasn't partnership.
That wasn't loyalty.
And it definitely wasn't cool.
[Pause]
People laugh.
People minimize.
People move on.
But some wounds don't hurt
because they're fresh.
They hurt
because they were real.
[Slow and sharp]
And if I ignored the red flags—
then I have to own that too.
If I saw signs
and called them shadows,
that's on me.
If I accepted less
than I deserved,
that's on me.
A hard truth.
But a necessary truth.
[Pause]
Because growth begins
where excuses end.
[Increase intensity]
I refuse to become bitter.
I refuse to become reckless.
I refuse to let betrayal
turn me into betrayal.
I refuse to let somebody else's choices
define my future.
[Pause]
That's why the mission changed.
No more chasing answers.
No more chasing closure.
No more chasing people
who already chose another direction.
The mission is me.
My peace.
My purpose.
My discipline.
My legacy.
[Firm]
Rebuild.
Rise.
Learn.
Repeat.
Rebuild.
Rise.
Learn.
Repeat.
[Stronger]
REBUILD.
RISE.
LEARN.
REPEAT.
[Long pause]
Because the greatest revenge
isn't destruction.
It's elevation.
It's becoming stronger
without becoming colder.
Wiser
without becoming harder.
Better
without becoming bitter.
[Final build]
I walked through disappointment.
I walked through humiliation.
I walked through fire.
And somehow
I came out carrying purpose
instead of ashes.
[Pause]
This is the last poem.
The end of the story.
No more explanations.
No more revisiting graves.
No more giving energy
to what chose to leave.
What's broken needs healing.
What's over needs ending.
What's ahead needs building.
[Firm. Confident.]
Stay off my page.
Go heal.
I already started.
[Final line. Slow. Let it land.]
The chapter broke my heart.
But it didn't break my mission.
