The Factory, Not The Ruins

Elder,
Yes sir.
I think you decoded more of what I was saying than most people ever could.
You saw past the emotion.
Past the divorce.
Past the names and faces.
You heard the signal inside all the noise.
And for that,
thank you.
Because truthfully,
it hasn't been about her for a very long time.
Not her.
Not her confidence.
Not her ego.
Not her beauty.
Not her flaws.
Not even the other man.
And certainly not the opinions of friends, family, or spectators.
That chapter closed.
The education continued.
What I've been doing is processing everything.
Childhood.
Adulthood.
Victories.
Failures.
Relationships.
Friendships.
Successes.
Losses.
Past and present.
Sometimes it feels like my mind isn't a mind at all.
It's a research campus.
Rows of servers humming.
Information moving through corridors.
Data arriving from every era of my life.
Every conversation.
Every mistake.
Every lesson.
Every unanswered question.
Being cataloged.
Compared.
Tested.
Simulated.
I run outcomes.
I study consequences.
I replay decisions.
I explore possibilities.
Not searching for blame.
Searching for understanding.
Building something.
A philosophy.
A framework.
A way to move through the next half of life with greater precision than the first.
And somewhere along the way,
something unexpected happened.
My desires changed.
My appetites changed.
My measurements changed.
The things that once impressed me don't impress me anymore.
Looks.
Attention.
Lust.
Validation.
Fantasy.
Illusion.
The temporary magnetism of what shines on the surface.
I've outgrown many of those things.
Not because I'm better than anyone.
Because I've seen behind the curtain.
I've seen what happens when appearance outranks character.
When attraction outranks alignment.
When chemistry outranks commitment.
Those equations always collapse.
Now I find myself seeking different things.
New thoughts.
New discoveries.
New perspectives.
New standards.
New disciplines.
New visions of the future.
Things my younger self couldn't fully appreciate.
And perhaps that's the strangest part.
I'm still me.
Yet I'm not.
I'm HIM.
But no longer the him I used to be.
That version served his purpose.
He carried me this far.
He took the hits.
Learned the lessons.
Paid the tuition.
Now another version is emerging.
Wiser.
Calmer.
More deliberate.
Less impressed.
Less reactive.
More aligned.
More prepared.
The old me searched for answers.
The new me builds systems.
The old me chased understanding.
The new me creates meaning.
The old me survived.
The new me is preparing to lead.
So when people see the poems,
they think they're reading about loss.
What they're actually witnessing is reconstruction.
A factory.
Not ruins.
A blueprint.
Not a grievance.
An evolution.
Not an obsession.
And maybe that's why I keep writing.
Not because I'm trapped in yesterday.
But because I can see tomorrow taking shape on the page.
So thank you, Elder.
For seeing beyond the words.
For hearing what I was truly saying.
And for reminding me that eventually the scientist leaves the lab.
The difference is,
I think I'm almost done building.
And what comes next will be bigger than anything that came before.
Respectfully,
- VillyMarlou
